Why I paint interiors
Every room has a story.
Some are childhood bedrooms.
Some are family homes.
Some are beloved shops and businesses.
Others are simply beautiful interiors that have inspired me.
I paint spaces that hold memories. Places where everyday life unfolds and moments become meaningful.
Whether it's the house you grew up in, your grandparents' living room, the business you've built, or the café where you met someone special, these places deserve to be remembered.
Sometimes a room can tell us as much about a person as a portrait can.
My name is Claudia Gill, I’m an artist from South Australia, currently living and working in Sydney. My work explores memory, emotion, and the intimacy of everyday spaces — the quiet poetry of homes and buildings, not just in their forms, but in the feelings and memories that they hold. I’m drawn to the emotional life of interiors: the atmosphere, the character, and the subtle traces left by the people who inhabit them.
I work primarily in watercolour, and occasionally in oils. I have taken classes at the Julian Ashton Art School, where I built a foundation in traditional realism techniques. Through my practice, I aim to capture moments of stillness and presence — those times when a room seems to speak, even if you’re not quite sure what it’s saying.
